Enigma are a 4 piece live indie rock band from St Helens. Covering classic songs from the 60’s to the present day ranging from The Who to the Foo Fighters.
They were formed in September 2016.
Jeff McGowan – Lead Vocals
Simon Ashcroft – Drums
Mike Nash – Guitar
Kev Rodgers – Bass
Jeff McGowan (b.1965) has been in bands from the age of 15, first with Rock Candy then with Punch The Clock with the legendary Greg Davies. Jeff then spent 15 years with Backwater before forming Enigma. With young drumming sensation Simon Ashcroft, the band drafted in Mike Nash on guitar who was with local charity band Riff Riders and Kev Rodgers on bass, who played with a Rush tribute band a few years ago.
Jeff McGowan is also well know as the organiser of Brookfest, a well regarded and respected annual music festival in St Helens.
Jeff told me “I started off doing a gig for a friend who served in Iraq, in aid of ‘Help 4 Heroes’, and I decided to do one myself with Backwater. One thing lead to another and it turned into Damfest at Carr Mill Dam. Then I went to Blackbrook Rugby Club because of the brilliant venue and we’ve been there four years this year, so it’s my 5th year.
“Enigma are doing really well and we are planning to do some recording and hopefully a CD.
“And of course we are looking forward to playing the massive stage at Brookfest again, plus other gigs up and down the country, however, this band is definately all about the enjoyment.”
