Thanks for taking the time to visit our St Helens Now Christmas 2017 Online Fest.

I have lost so many people, friends, family, including 3 siblings, to cancer. Cancer is a disease that can be eradicated. It needs your help and support though to get rid of this once and for all.

St Helens Now are having a St Helens, Merseyside festival with a difference. It will be held online only. We are looking for bands/artists to donate a Christmas song. Please join in the spirit of the event.

Coincidentally, it is the Steve Prescott Foundation's 10th Anniversary as well as the 10th Anniversary since St Helens Now was established.

I have set an initial target of £850 between now and Christmas but this target may rise depending on the response.

Our Town by Lynn Gerrard

From Johnny Wellies to Johnny Vegas
Beechams pills for ills that plagued us
From Pimblett’s pies and Pilkingtons glass
To the Theatre Royal for a touch of class
For all those with a thirst for learning
The Gamble Institute filled that yearning
And for other thirsts and needs to quench
Greenhall’s brewery was Heaven sent!
And for those in search of an arty buzz
You need look no further than Cultural Hubs
As libraries showcase all you need
Through their ever expanding entertainment feed
Whilst Heart Of Glass keep pulses thumping
By supporting creatives and providing funding
Then there’s the scoring might of our rugby team
Fuelling cheer and feeding dreams
Of fans and folk so proud to be
Part of the St Helens Family
And family we are through thick and thin
Bearing hardship with a grin
Because it’s in our history and in our blood
To help the other as families should
So let’s celebrate the past we share
And re-generate wealth in a town we care
So much about, a town that’s as true
For future generations as it was for me and you
Our town
Our future
St Helens

Lynn, from Dentons Green, St Helens won The Pride of St Helens as the Arts Award 2017 winner. She was thrilled that her poem ('Our Town' featured above) about St Helens was read out at the awards ceremony. Lynn added: “Just the raw love of my home town, the people and its heritage has really helped me.

“I do believe in St Helens. Its future can be as powerful as its past.”

Lynn has kindly allowed us to reproduce her poem in it's entirity here on the St Helens Now Xmas Online Fest. Lynn hopes it will help our cause to raise donations for the Steve Prescott Foundation.

A very nice email from Linzi Prescott

Hi Barry,

Thank you for thinking of fundraising for The Steve Prescott Foundation, in the anniversary of our 10th year, organising St. Helens Now Christmas Online Fest.

The SPF is very proud of the legacy left by Stephen and the inspiration he gives to people to support his chosen charities which were close to his heart.

The donations to the SPF go to support The Christie in Manchester, the Rugby League Benevolent Fund (Try Assist) and the SPF Special Causes Fund. The SPF fund allows those hospitals, researchers and surgeons who deal in Pseudomyxoma related conditions and multi visceral transplantation to apply for grants to the Trustees of the SPF who will ensure sure that the money will have a direct and significant effect on people's lives.

The donations we receive really do make a difference to people’s lives. Let me take this opportunity to wish you the very best of luck with the event.

Sincere thanks
