Community Parent Programme seeks volunteers!

Posted Wednesday 28th November 2012

Are you a parent? Could you spare an hour or two a week to support another parent?

The Community Parents Programme is a parent-to-parent volunteer support service operating across Halton.

Our team of volunteers are themselves parents or carers who have completed a programme of training in order to offer befriending support to families across Halton.

Community Parents understand the challenges and difficulties many parents experience when bringing up children and can offer friendly support and encouragement to parents in similar situations, sharing useful ideas and information, whilst helping parents to build their skills.

They can visit parents and carers in their home or meet them for a coffee and offer a listening ear, parenting support, information around their child’s development and behaviour, as well as signposting them to other agencies.

The volunteers can also offer support to parents when attending groups or appointments which they may not feel comfortable doing so alone.

In turn, our volunteers gain useful experience which can lead to new job opportunities and accredited training. They also make new friends by meeting up with other volunteers!

To find out more about becoming a Community Parent volunteer, please contact Claire Foy, Health Improvement Co-ordinator at the Health Improvement Team (part of Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Trust), on 0300 300 0103 or visit www.healthimprovementteam.co.uk.
