Ludovico Einaudi - Le Onde.
[Ricordi : 1998 ]

Every now and then an album comes along that changes they way you think about music. This is one of those albums. The only word that springs to mind is perfection. From the first scintillating key to the last - it's everything a contemporary classical work should be: elevated, yet with no hint of pretension. Elegant but accessible. Rich and melodious. Think Nyman's The Piano. Haunting - think American Beauty or Six feet Under and you'll get the picture - at least part of it.
This album deserves to be heard by everybody. It is possibly one of the best pieces of music ever recorded - a truly modern classic. The music completely draws you in and there is little else you can do whilst it is playing - it is utterly spellbinding. The finely crafted pieces are evocative, inspirational and subtlely charged with emotional intensity. This music is accessible to listeners with all sorts of tastes. Anybody who enjoys music which is passionate, majestic, elegant and spiritual will be immediately enchanted by this album. Imagine Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata crossed with Watermark by Enya and you'll have some idea of what to expect - piano playing that paints a beautiful picture. However, words alone cannot describe what a magical and graceful album this truly is. Buy it, put it on the CD player, close your eyes and discover perfection.
