Re: HAPPY 1ST ANNIVERSARY ST HELENS NOW
( 21/9/09 )
Happy Birthday SNOW , will try to catch up asap... well done guys
Unfortunately not, I think they banned alcohol there a couple of years back
Shame really, cos everyone will need a drink after they've had to put up with hearing me sing!

St Helens Lingo
Re: St Helens Lingo
( 11/5/09 )
Some more:
"Cock" - a term of endearment usually applied to men as in "Alright cock?". Can you be used by both men and women.
"Bockle" - A bottle. St Helens people often replace a "tt" in a word with "ck" as in "keckle" meaning kettle.
"Skryking" means crying, as in "Don't start skryking"

Shops that are no more
Re: Shops that are no more
( 9/5/09 )
The shop that holds most memories for me was Woodsies, it was run by Annie and May Woods and stood at the top of Crispen Street. It was a really old fashioned shop and Annie and May were straight from the victorian era, they even has bustles on their skirts.
The shop had a window full of sweets, and the inside of the shop was jam packed with all sorts of yummy and not so yummy stuff.
Annie and May were a real eccentric pair, and even if they didnt have what you wanted they would always offer you an alternative. I remember going in one day and asking for Arrow Bars (caramel sweets) May said they had no Arrow Bars but did I want some Horror Cards!!!
It was a great shop but I don't know how they managed to survive because every kid who went in for sweets came out with pocketfuls of stuff they hadn't paid for!! - Happy days
